The Peripheral Nervous System

Back (Answer)

Consists of nerve fibres, ganglia (groups of nerve cell bodies).

Afferent division: carries impulses into CNS.

Efferent Division: Carries impulses away from CNS. Sudivided into Somatic and Autonomic Divisions.

  • Somatic Division: Conveys impulses from CNS to skeletal muscles. Consious control.
  • Autonomic Division: Carries impulses from CNS to involuntary muscles and glands. Divided into:
  1. Sympathetic Division (Fright or flight response)
  2. Parasympathetic Division (Relax)
