Basic structural units of the nervous system.

Dendrites: Carry nerve impulses into cell.

Axons: Carries nerve impulses away from cell. Most axons covered with fatty layer (myelin sheath). Axon with myelin sheath called nerve fibre.

Outside CNS, myelin sheath formed by Schwann Cells. Gaps in Schwann Cells called Nodes of Ranvier. Membrane around myelin sheath called neurilemma.
