the crusade of Nicopolis; King Simismund of Hungary sent a desperate plea for assisstance to the Frenc Court; Charles responded with money and men. both popes endorsed the proposed crusade and issued indulgences for which ever troops recognized them.

Many Burgundian and German barons also joined the expedition.; met Sigismund and his armies in Buda in 1396. it was one of the largest crusading forces ever assmbled.

King of Hungary -> cautious; Knights-> follow example of 1st crusade by winnig conquests all the way to Jerusalem; immediate attack and wanted to lead the assault.

Sultan Bayazid-> defended Nicopolis and won; his men were well disciplined and under unified command.
