Front (Question)

Gaining Positions of Leaderships

Back (Answer)

Leaders must invest large amounts of time, take responsibility, even put personal security on the line. Why lead? The rewards are also great, when groups are successful leaders get rewarded, recognition, high social status, and material rewards.

o For some acquiring the fruits of leadership are the primary reason for belonging to groups: they join (create) group so they may have followers to lead and resources to acquire.

o For others gaining the benefits is only secondary to group membership; get things done, acquire useful info, gain emotional support, once inside may see the benefits and try to move up to leader positions.
